Reliability is an important concept in life and in tech. In tech, we would define that as a system's ability to function correctly over time. In life, I would define that as a person's ability to be dependable and trustworthy. In both cases, it’s an important trait. You can expand your network through referrals by being trustworthy, creating a network effect. By striving to be reliable, you push yourself to be the best and deliver the best results. Think of a time when someone didn't follow through, even if it’s just a simple thing: we meet in 30min and they show up on time, or if they did the chore they said they would do. How did that make you feel, or even better, how does it make you feel if they fail to be reliable? I really started to appreciate and think about reliability when I got praise for it from a person whose opinion I respect. It was for a simple chore, but I sure did not forget that. We do live in an age where everyone has their own life and reliability is more scarce, so we must not forget: “Although there are many things you can rely on, no one is more reliable than yourself.” — Jack Weatherford |
